Planned as a twelve-volume encyclopedia by some of the editors of the Catholic Encyclopedia, covering general knowledge, not just religious topics, but written from a Catholic point of view in the manner of Der Grosse Herder (A123) . Most of the articles in the first two volumes were rather short, and only major articles were signed and had bibliographies which were not very extensive.
