"Severely criticized for its arrangement but does have a Table des auteurs. From the point of view of scientific bibliography, the work is not wholly satisfactory. There is no attempt at annotation, nor at discrimination between what is valuable and what almost worthless… . Since the publication of Pérennès' Dictionary nothing on so large a scale, and at the same time, with so wide a scope would seem to have been attempted." (Stephen J. M. Brown, "Catholic Bibliography," in Catholic Library Practice, ed. by Bro. David Martin (Portland, OR, University of Oregon Press, 1947-50], v. 1, p. 107). Incorporates and supersedes previous works of this kind. An exhaustive bibliography of previous bibliographical works will be found in vol. I, p. xxix of Migne's Encyclopédie théologique (A122) of which this work is a part.
