Like Léon-Dufour (B102) this work is theological rather than factual in emphasis. It has been recommended especially for the theological content of its articles and the individual coverage of each book of the Bible "despite its high price and some minor printing errors" (Catholic Biblical Quarterly, XXVIII [April, 1966], p. 153). It is the work of one man, but eight experts in the field checked his work. In addition to giving his own opinions in most articles, McKenzie also cites those of other authorities or indicates the trend of modem scholarship. No bibliographies are supplied for individual topics.
