A translation by the International Committee on English in the Liturgy of the Calendarium romanum published in 1970 by the Sacred Congregation of Rites. This revision of the liturgical year was undertaken to restore major feasts and commemorations to their proper place and to eliminate lesser known saints and those whose historical authenticity had been called into question. This document establishes what feast will occur on each day of the year and how significant the observance is to be. In two separate appendixes, the saints listed in the new calendar are named and described; and the reasons are given for dropping the saints of the old calendar. Indexes. See also Liturgical Calendar (B399).
