Volume one devotes a chapter to each of the five uniate rites except the Byzantine, which receives more detailed treatment. For each of these rites there is given a short bibliography, a history, a summary of its present state, and a description of its liturgy and customs. There is also a chapter on Eastern monasticism. Volume two does much the same thing for the Orthodox Church as well as for the Nestorians and Monophysites. Both volumes contain bibliographies, glossaries and indexes.
