Dehey, Elinor Tong. Religious Orders of Women in the United States: Catholic. Accounts of Their Origin, Works and Most Important Institutions, Interwoven with Histories of Many Famous Foundresses. Rev. ed. Hammond, IN, W. B. Conkey Co., 1930. xxxi, 908 p. il. LC 30-22058.

Concentrates on the larger groups from which smaller orders have broken away, e.g., Sisters of Charity, Sisters of St. Joseph. Some 200 orders, however, are covered. A good source for history and lives of foundresses. Many portraits and photographs of convents and institutions. Now considerably out-of-date for current information.
