Ooms, Herwig. Repertorium universale siglorum ordinum et institutum religiosorum in Ecclesia Catholica. Bruxelles, Commission Belge de Bibliographie, 1959. 303p. (Bibliographia Belgica, 45.) LC 60-24977.

Members of religious orders usually affix the initials of their order to their names. These initials are frequently confusing because they may represent the Latin form of the name, a lesser known official form, or a foreign language form. Some of the works listed above contain indexes of initials, but this is the most useful source since it gives the name in Latin and all other languages in which the order is known. Dates and places of founding and the name of the founder are also supplied.
